With a background in media studies, philosophy of technology, and environmental communication, his research explores the relations between design, culture and politics. More recently, he has been looking into how urban imaginaries and different conceptions of the future influence the design and deployment of smart city technologies. Roy is also a Fellow of the Urban Futures Studio at Utrecht University and former editor of the sustainability forum in ACM’s Interactions magazine. His book, Interactive Media for Sustainability (2018), was published as part of the Palgrave Studies in Media and Environmental Communication series.
